Hi!  My name is Meaghan and I love to rhyme!  I love the way words sound, I love the way they can flow and dance and feel like music when put in just the right order.  I love hearing the way rhyme jumps in and out of people's words as they speak and share their stories.  

 

       I also love reading books with my children! I love the way books and oral stories bring families closer together, (physically and mentally!), and how they spark creative dialogue and deepen pretend role play.

 

   One day, after the thoughtful suggestion from my husband, I combined my love of rhyme with my love of books and, with the help of my wonderful graphic illustrator, have brought some of my many poems to life!  Some of them have been created into books and some have evolved as single meme-style images, which can be found on Instagram.  

 

     I enjoy working within the confines of poetic scheme and my aim is to tell a story in as few words as possible.  Snippets of an afternoon, a moment in a family's life, or a glimpse at a gorgeously hued sky are common themes.  I aim to capture beautiful moments as well as funny, relatable stories, most of which are taken from my own day. 

 

      I also love to cook and bake and play games and grow plants and listen to rock and roll! Music plays a large part in my life and can certainly be felt in my work.  I aim for a straight forward, almost marchable, beat in my stories. Sometimes I think of my work as the place where song meets poetry, and that if my work was music, it would lean towards straight forward blues. 

 

      I strive to make poetry accessible. My goal is to create simple and welcoming poems for families with young children to enjoy while sparking the imagination and a lifelong love of words!
