Hello and Welcome!

My name is Meaghan, and this is my blog! I have a lot to say, but to start, I live near Worcester, Massachusetts, right over the line in Auburn, with my husband, two children, and our dog. I am 37 years old and my kids are 7 and 3, and most, if not all, of my writing is influenced or inspired by my family and our neighborhood. We have some fun, crazy, and wild times here at our house, and I like writing about them and sharing our stories with the world!

I am writing this blog for a few reasons, but mostly to talk about my children’s books and my life as a mom and children’s book author. I am writing and publishing the books myself and I am working alongside Marybeth Lensel, a professional artist who is both illustrating and designing the books. We teamed up and during the quarantine were able to create three books, scheduled for released on June 1, 2021!

The three books coming out, “Tomatoes!”, “Stuck Inside”, and “The Sky Ahead”, all have their own unique feel. “Tomatoes!” is bright and bold and warmly illustrated, while “Stuck Inside” has the heavy feel of truly being bored out of your mind! “The Sky Ahead” is a gorgeous masterpiece, certain to become a staple in every family’s bedtime story routine. What a wonderful book to read while snuggling up and falling asleep! The books are intended for young audiences, but even adult readers will enjoy the fun rhymes and beautiful imagery.

My writing style is mostly verse, meaning the full story is written in rhyme, though I do occasionally step outside of structured poetry, and my non-rhyming poems are among my best. I love working within the confines of poetic scheme and structure, I love figuring out what words in what pattern will complete the rhyme puzzle. The first two lines set the flow, the syllables acting as beats, and from there it’s more of an internal feeling of what words fit than anything methodical. The words I choose directly dictate the direction in which the graphic illustrator moves, which in turn will guide the reader’s experience, and so each word is carefully chosen and placed.

One of the major joys in creating these books is seeing my words come to life in physicality, on paper or on a screen. We are getting so, so close to getting the first round of books to stores! They will be available online at all the major retailers in both print and e-book on June 1st, 2021, with offerings in brick and mortar locations to follow.
