RHYME IS ALL AROUND US
Rhyme is all around us
It’s floating in the air
Go ahead and grab one
Super double doggie dare
Rhyme is all around us
It moves through with the breeze
You can feel it in the flowers
You hear it rustling in the trees
Rhyme’s entrenched in water
It’s saturating seas
You can jump right in it
Or just wade up to your knees
Rhyme is in our breath
Inhale, exhale, then again
On a cold day see it
Condensing in the wind
Rhyme is in our heart and veins
It sets our lifely beat
Feel it in your fingers
Feel it in your feet
Rhyme can be a rock
Tip it over, watch it roll
Rhyme can be a clock
Let the ticking soothe your soul
Rhyme is in the way
Two people hug and kiss goodnight
Rhyme is just before
When those two people had a fight
Rhyme is a new bicycle
Hear the tires, feel the brakes
Going through a puddle
Leaving trails that look like snakes
Rhyme is an old lawnmower
Hear the engine kinda buck
Stopping to restart it
Four leaf clover means good luck
Rhyme is the way the sunlight hits us
As we’re coming ‘round the bend
Rhyme is the sound of voices calling
When we run into a friend
Rhyme is the marching band
That goes parading down the street
Keeping time and looking fine
Keeping rhythm with their feet
Rhyme is in the shower
The way it swirls right down the drain
Water beats upon our skin
Nurturing our brain
Rhyme is the grandest redwood tree
Mighty trunk which grows so tall
Once was the size of a blade of grass
It really was that small
Rhyme is in the mountain wind
Whipping through the cairn and brush
Duck way low and shelter down
All other sounds are hushed
Rhyme is the forceful river
Whooshing, plowing on
Rhyme is how it flows on through
The morning, dusk, and dawn
Rhyme is how mosquitos sound
They fly and buzz and swarm
Watch one try to land and then
Squash it firm against your arm
Rhyme is a fluffy cloud
Moving through a bright blue sky
Rhyme is a heavy rain
Quenching crops that are too dry
Rhyme is the way the farmers sing
The way they do their dance
The harvest that the rain will bring
They honor all the plants
Rhyme is in the food we cook
The way we bake our bread
Rhyme is passing ‘round the pitcher
And getting hungry bellies fed
Rhyme is the thing I hear at night
That laps up against my mind
Like the ocean does the shore
Seems from another time
Rhyme is also rhythm
Music without instruments
Words can play a song
All in tune, no dissonance
Rhyme is total freedom
Rhyme can help reveal
Rhyme can add some mystery
Rhyme can give an honest deal
Rhyme is all around you
Go ahead and grab a bit
Fully give yourself to it
Lift your feet and take a sit
