“The Magic Forest” (???)

1.

A long time ago

In a land far away

There once was a forest

Might be there today

2

The forest was big

And the forest was wide

And all sorts of magical things

Lived inside

3.

The forest held creatures

And things without name

It also held family

And fortune and fame

4.

Most people can’t find it

Though there’ve been few

Who say that they have

And that the stories are true

5.

And right here before you

Is the tale that they tell

‘Round the fire at night

As the flames start to swell

6.

It’s told very late

While the children are sleeping

At the time when grown men

Share the secrets they’re keeping

7.

The tales are quite long

Of the places they’ve gone

They start before midnight

And don’t end until dawn

8.

So prepare yourself now

For our journey is nigh

The ship left it’s mooring

Set sail, say goodbye…

9.

Our story begins

As some others do

With a man and a map

And a few gold doubloons

10.

A man who is poor

Though wants to be rich

And from rags to riches

He quite wants to switch

11.

He doesn’t have much

But he takes what he has

It all fits quite neatly

Into a single strapped bag

12.

Over his shoulder he throws it

As he takes his first stride

On the path towards the forest

His chest swelled with pride...

13.

The path is a long one

It’s of stone and dirt

There’s mountains and rivers and valleys

And thorns that will tear at a shirt

14.

The path is quite narrow

Just two feet across

It’s faint and it’s shallow

Most folks will get lost

15.

The man in our story knew better

The man in our story knew best

He learned from a man who had been there

To stay on the path and go west

16.

So he brought with him a compass

And he brought with him a map

He bought from the man who had been there

That showed the way there, plus the traps

17.

“Watch out for the traps!” the man warned him

“Watch out as they’ll come on quick!

“Watch out as you won’t know you’re in quicksand

“Until it’s too late and you sink!”

18.

The start of the path is a steep one

A mountain ridge turns men away

There’s no shelter for which to sleep in

Sometimes there’s no water for days

19.

The man in our story stood staring

When the dirt path opened up at the crag

He suddenly wished he had brought more

Than a walking stick and a shoulder bag

20.

The journey itself would take months

With cold nights and sweltering days

Rattlesnakes lay in the grasses

Big beasts lying in wait for their prey

***.)

The path itself is a journey

The path in itself it is long

There’s nobody else there to talk to

Might as well make up a song

***.)

Sing to yourself in the morning

Sing to yourself in the night

Sing to the sun when it rises

Sing when it moves out of sight
